The 3 C’s of life: Choices, Chances, Changes.

You must make a choice to take a chance or your life will never change.

It is a simple idea, but it is powerful because it tells the truth.

When people come to coaching, they are rarely lacking ability. More often, they are at a crossroads. They have outgrown something, but they have not yet built a clear bridge to what is next.

That is where the 3 C’s help. They turn “I want something different” into a practical path you can follow.

1) Choice (clarity first)

A choice is not the whole plan. It is the direction.

Without a clear choice, people stay stuck in “maybe”, “one day”, or “when things calm down”. They keep thinking, keep planning, keep worrying, but nothing actually shifts.

Choice is the moment you decide to stop drifting and start steering.

If you are not sure where to start, begin with what is true today.

Try this (10 minutes). Answer quickly. No overthinking.

  • What is draining me right now?
  • What do I want more of (energy, freedom, challenge, impact, time, confidence)?
  • What am I no longer willing to tolerate?
  • If nothing changed for 12 months, what would it cost me (time, confidence, health, money, relationships)?
  • One clear sentence: “I am choosing to…”

Examples:

  • “I am choosing to explore a career change, not just another job.”
  • “I am choosing to stop offering services in my business that do not suit me.”
  • “I am choosing to step into leadership, not stay small.”

The goal is not to have every answer. The goal is to create direction you can act on.

2) Chance (small brave steps)

A chance does not have to be huge. It just has to be real.

Most people do not stall because they chose the wrong thing. They stall because they are waiting to feel ready. The problem is that confidence usually comes after you move, not before.

This is where you stop trying to think your way into change and start taking small steps that create momentum.

A chance is any action that puts you in contact with the future you want.

Try this (choose one chance for the next 7 days).

Career: (visit our Career Coaching page)

  • Have one conversation with someone doing a role you are curious about.
  • Make one “test” application to practise momentum.
  • Update your CV summary and ask one trusted person to sense check it.

Business: (visit our Business Coaching page)

  • Run a small pilot (one session, one workshop, one offer) rather than overbuilding.
  • Ask three previous clients what they would want next from you.
  • Tighten one thing in your business that has been draining you (an offer, a boundary, a process).

Key point: your chance should be small enough you will do it, but brave enough it stretches you.

If you are feeling overwhelmed, make it smaller. If you are feeling stuck, make it bolder. Either way, take a step.

3) Change (making it stick)

Change is the result. It is what happens after you keep showing up.

This is where people wobble, because the messy middle is real. New habits. New identity. New routines. It can feel uncomfortable because you are no longer in the old normal, but you are not yet settled in the new one.

This is exactly why support and structure matter.

A “change that sticks” mini checklist:

  • What is my new normal going to look like?
  • What will I stop doing to make space for it?
  • What support will keep me steady (coach, mentor, structure, feedback)?
  • What are my weekly actions for the next 4 weeks?

Progress comes from doing the basics consistently, not from doing everything perfectly once.

What this looks like in real life (from our clients)

If you are wondering whether coaching genuinely helps, here are a few words from clients that capture the shifts that happen when people commit to the 3 C’s.

“Nicky’s practical advice and unwavering support have been game-changers, helping me navigate challenges and scale my business effectively.”

“I went into my first coaching session… unsure, if not convinced, that I had no transferable skills.”

“The support and knowledge I have received from Nicky has provided me with the clarity to reassess my career values… and enabled me to re-evaluate how I would like to take my career forward.”

“I found the sessions extremely helpful. Nicky created a calming, safe space to explore my areas of concern… and have left with a renewed confidence.”

These are not magic outcomes. They are what happens when you make a choice, take a chance, and then keep going long enough for change to land.

A gentle challenge to finish

If you are stuck right now, do not try to fix everything.

Pick one C for today:

  • Choice: write your “I am choosing to…” sentence.
  • Chance: take one small brave step within 48 hours.
  • Change: remove one thing that keeps pulling you back into the old normal.

Because if you do not choose, you still choose. You choose the same.
